Three new places to shop, eat and drink have opened in the City of Harrison’s historic downtown district this month. City officials have been helping to welcome the new businesses.
Mojave Groom Room opened July 1 at 231 Harrison Avenue. The entrance is on N. Sycamore Street. Owner Elizabeth Halusek is booking appointments for dog grooming and selling locally-made dog collars, treats, candles and more.
Tuco’s Cantina opened July 7 at 104 Harrison Avenue. The menu includes tacos, quesadillas, margaritas and more.
"With the long-sustained success of our bar in Over-The-Rhine, The Drinkery, we wanted to do something a bit closer to home for both of us, where we could get in on the ground floor of an area with immense potential," said Tuco's Co-Owner Justin Kohl. "It was also special for me because my dad has had a business here since the late 80s, and now I get to do the same after watching all of the changes and development Harrison has gone through since then."
On the Rocks Harrison (OTR) opened July 8 at 231 Harrison Avenue with a brand-new patio space. Owner Elizabeth Janszen has crafted a menu with musically-themed cocktails, appetizers, sandwiches and more.
Tuco’s and OTR are also part of The District DORA, which allows patrons to carry alcoholic beverages in designated cups as they shop and stroll. More information including rules are available.
Each business commemorated its opening with a ribbon-cutting coordinated through Greater Harrison Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber provides businesses with many cost-saving programs such as health care benefits, as well as promotional opportunities. New and existing businesses are encouraged to email the Chamber for more information.
The City’s Economic Development, Building & Zoning Department supports companies with technical and financial programs, permits, plan reviews and building inspections. More information about opening business in Harrison is available here.
