Work has started on the West Road safety improvement project. The project includes widening the bridge over I-74 as well as adding a sidewalk and street lights so pedestrians can cross safely.
Following a fatal pedestrian accident in 2018, a traffic study was commissioned to count people and cars using the bridge.
The West Road project is expected to be completed in summer of 2024. Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) awarded a $1 million safety grant for the project in 2020. City Council voted to allocate $300,000 toward the project in March 2023.
A pedestrian crosswalk signal will be added at the intersection of West Road and Harrison Avenue. A pedestrian crosswalk signal will also be installed at Stone Drive and Harrison Avenue, where a median has been completed. New LED traffic signals will be installed at that intersection in the coming months.
Harrison Avenue, from New Haven Road to Stone Drive, will be repaved in the near future.
