A Message From Mayor Neyer: We're a Community that Cares

The holiday season is fast approaching and things are looking a little brighter when it comes to the COVID-19 challenges we have faced. The citizens of Harrison, the Southwest Local School District and the City's employees and safety service professionals have worked well together to meet challenges and minimize the health impact to our community.

The City will continue to follow State of Ohio and Hamilton County health guidelines. So, procedures and events could change at a moment’s notice depending on their recommendations.

We must also remember that the past couple of years have been very difficult for many area residents because of employment issues and the loss of loved ones. It is my hope that our community will enjoy the holidays this year with a renewed sense of appreciation, gratitude and resiliency.

If you know someone who needs assistance, financially or emotionally, please contact any of our local churches, social organizations, or the Harrison Mayor’s Community Fund for help. If you know of a neighbor that may be in need or be experiencing loneliness this season, please reach out and let them know you care. After all, that is what "community" is all about.

Thanks to all our residents for keeping Harrison a wonderful place to live. I pray that your holidays are safe and especially meaningful this year. - Bill Neyer

'TIS THE SEASON FOR SHARING SNAPSHOTS

The City is collecting seasonal snapshots from around town until Jan. 7, 2022. The photos will help depict life in Harrison during this time of year and will be shared on Facebook and through other official City communications. Photos that depict local fall or winter scenes or holiday decor may be emailed, along with contact information and home address, to jgreiwe@harrisonohio.gov. Residents who participate will be entered into random drawing for a gift card.

ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE IN NEED

There are several resources available to Harrison residents or families experiencing hardship.

MAYOR'S COMMUNITY FUND
The Harrison Mayor's Community Fund is a charity that assists any citizens residing within the Southwest Local Schools District. With the assistance of Christ of Loving Hands (another local, charitable organization) the Fund provides grocery vouchers, food pantry items, Duke energy bill assistance and occasionally rent payments. During the holiday season, the Mayor's Community Fund, together with the various local churches and schools, provides assistance in the form of food, clothing, winter coats and toys to hundreds of families. Applications must be submitted in person during one of the following times: November 6, 10, 13 and 17 from 9 a.m. to noon, or Nov. 10 and 17 between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Harrison Community Center (300 George Street). A photo ID and proof of residence (such as a bill for utilities, insurance or cable) must be presented.

ASSISTANCE AGENCIES
Use 211.org, a United Way service, to find local community agencies supplying aid for a wide range of needs. These agencies often administer both state and federal funds or know of state agencies that are overseeing related state-approved funds.

DUKE ENERGY PROGRAMS
Duke offers a variety of payment plans and options to assist with natural gas and electric utility bills. Visit duke-energy.com/home/billing to learn more.
