Harrison's first cruise-in was a hit with 62 participating cars. The event brought many people to the historic downtown district to enjoy cars, music, shopping and more.



HARRISON CRUISING TOWARD COOLER DAYS 

With the end of summer in sight, Harrisonians can still look forward to fun, outdoor events. One of Harrison’s beloved traditions has become Taste of Harrison. The annual event is Sept. 10 and is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the City’s historic downtown. The District, an association of local businesses, is coordinating this event.

Also Sept. 10, browse for for great bargains and treasures at the Harrison City-Wide Yard Sale. The sale is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center. The annual Spooktacular Recreation Commission event is slated for Oct. 30. Details for this and other events are on the City Calendar.

UTILITY UPDATES


Completion of the City's water softener is pushed to the fall.

The City has a new energy aggregation contract. Residents will be notified by mail.

BABY BOX PLANNED

Harrison Fire Station 56 will get a Safe Haven Baby Box, likely in 2023. Reach Out Pregnancy Center is raising $20,000 for the project, which was initiated with City Council approval in June.


The Baby Box provides a secure, climate-controlled and anonymous place where a parent in crisis can safely surrender their baby to the care of first responders. Click here to read more.


LIFE-SAVING FIRST RESPONDERS RECOGNIZED

Four City of Harrison firefighters and paramedics were given the Blue Maltese Award for their lifesaving response in March.

Dispatched to a private residence for a "lift and assist," the men administered CPR when their patient became unresponsive. She was released from a hospital six days later. Click here to read more.


HARRISON CITIZEN SPOTLIGHT

Help the City of Harrison shine a spotlight on our most outstanding citizens! You can nominate your neighbor, family member or someone else who embodies what it means to have a positive impact on the community. FITZGERALD & REARDON RETIRE FROM CIVIL SERVICE

Two of City of Harrison’s longtime employees have retired with 39 combined years of service.

Peggy Fitzgerald began working in the City Utilities Department in 2004. She was a familiar, friendly face to many residents who visited the office. For several years, she also worked for the Finance Department. She was recognized in June for 18 years of service.

Amanda Reardon started out in the Explorer Program as a Harrison High School student. She was hired part-time in 2001, and in 2009, she became the City's first full-time, female firefighter. She was recognized in August for 21 years of service.
