MAYOR NEYER: GIVE, CELEBRATE AND BE MERRY

The holiday season is almost upon us, and many are planning celebrations. While many look forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas with great anticipation, this time of year may bring feelings of anxiety and doubt for others. The Harrison Mayor's Community Fund (HMCF) exists to ease the stress, especially this time of year. Through donations and fund raisers, HMCF aides our neighbors in their times of need.

Area churches and schools are joining forces with HMCF to streamline donations and distribution to ensure more residents are effectively served. Please watch for more information through social media, local press, churches and schools. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can mail a check payable to "Harrison Mayor's Community Fund," PO Box 471, Harrison, OH 45030. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at bneyer@harrisonohio.gov. I hope this holiday season is the best ever for you and all residents of the Harrison area. -Bill Neyer

WATER SOFTENER COMPLETED IN OCTOBER

reverse osmosis water filters at the City of Harrison water plant

The City's water softener project is completed and residents should bypass or adjust their home softeners as soon as possible. Reverse osmosis softening is being phased in to the water plant's 1.5 million gallon per day output. The final hardness will be 140 mg/L of CaCo3.

The plant provides safe drinking water for 13,000 residents and local businesses. Visit harrisonohio.gov for an FAQ about the water softener and other utility updates.

STABILIZED NATURAL GAS RATE SECURED

The City has worked closely with Energy Alliances to establish a cost-stabilizing program for natural gas. This program is known as aggregation. For the term October 2022 to October 2024, Energy Alliances has secured a price of $0.839 per cubic feet (ccf) supplied through AEP Energy. Per Ohio law, all eligible households in the City are enrolled in the program. This includes households who opted out during the previous aggregation contract period. Visit energyalliances.com/city-ofharrison to learn more.

STREETS DEPT. PREPARES FOR LEAVES & SNOW

Curbside leaf pickup began the last week of October and continues weekly through January 1, as necessary. In order to collect leaves more effectively, rake your leaves about 12 inches from the curb.

The schedule has not changed and is posted on here on the City website. This schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or emergencies.

If snow is forecast, please do not park on the street. The City maintains a fleet of six dump trucks for plowing and salting 45 miles of roadway and public parking lots. Two pick-up trucks are also equipped with snow plows. The City stocks about 700 tons of salt each winter in addition to calcium chloride, which is used for very low road surface temperatures.

RITA REACHES OUT TO HARRISON TAXPAYERS

The Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) has mailed “non-filing notices” to 2,548 people who did not file a municipal income tax return for 2021.

Harrison collects a 1 percent municipal income tax from people who work in Harrison and from companies located within the City limits. Per Codified Ordinance 183, the income tax applies to qualifying wages, commissions from businesses and corporations, net profits from businesses and corporations and revenue from rental properties. A tax credit up to 100 percent of the tax may be available to residents who pay income tax to another municipality. However, every resident is still required to complete a City tax return annually.

Taxpayers can simply e-file, mail or fax to RITA the documents listed on the non-filing notice.

PLEASE NOTE CITY OFFICES ARE CLOSED IN OBSERVANCE OF THANKSGIVING NOVEMBER 24-25,  2022 AND IN OBSERVANCE OF CHRISTMAS DECEMBER 23-26.
