1. Can I get my child's car seat checked at the Harrison Fire Department?

Yes! We have trained technicians to assist you with the proper installation of your child's seat. There is no charge for this but an appointment is required. Please call 513-367-4194 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to arrange a time.

2. Is open burning permitted in the City of Harrison?

Open burning of trash and brush is not permitted within the city limits. However, you can obtain a burn permit if you live in Harrison Township. Burn permits are issued at Harrison Fire headquarters located at 200 Harrison Ave.

3. Will I receive a bill for Emergency Medical Runs?

Harrison residents will not receive a bill for an EMS run. However, your insurance company will be billed and the City of Harrison will accept whatever payment is allowed by your insurance company. Residents will receive a statement from their insurance company showing what was paid for this service. If you have questions regarding a bill, please call Medicount Management at 1-866-587-0824.

4. How do I get a copy of a fire fun report or EMS report?

Fire run reports are public record and can be obtained at the Fire Department. Please call ahead of time for this request. EMS reports are only available to the patient with a signed medical release form and picture ID. The Harrison Fire Department follows all the State HIPAA laws to protect the medical information of all patients.

5. Does the Harrison Fire Department provide smoke detectors to residents of Harrison?

Yes, upon availability, smoke detectors are free to all residents of Harrison at no charge. Please make sure you change your batteries twice a year. If you cannot climb to change your batteries, call the Fire Department at 513-367-4194 and we will be happy to assist you.

These detectors can be obtained at the Harrison Fire Department, which is located at 200 Harrison Avenue, from Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

6. Does the Harrison Fire Department provide a "Juvenile Fire Setters" programs?

Yes. We have certified firefighter's that teach this program. This is a confidential 1-on-1 program with the child to instruct them of the dangers and hazards of playing with fire. 7. Am I permitted to grill on my patio or balcony?

No, grilling is not permitted on decks or balconies (1 and 2 family dwellings excluded). Grilling must be at least 10 feet from combustible construction.

8. Are outdoor fireplaces permitted?

Yes, outdoor fireplaces are acceptable by the Ohio Fire Code. Please be aware the fireplaces get extremely hot and should not be used close to combustible materials. Ohio Fire Code online.

9. Can I come to the Fire Department to have my blood pressure checked?

Absolutely! We are open 24/7 and provide blood pressure checks as a community service. Don't forget to ask for a blood pressure card to record your readings and take to your next doctor's appointment.

10. What is the ISO rating for the Harrison Fire Department?

Our current rating is a 2. This number is a factor in your homeowner's insurance. The lower the number, you could receive lower premiums for your insurance, depending on the company. The ISO rating is from 10 - 1. With "1" being the best.

There are many factors considered when determining the ISO rating. Just about every aspect of a city and a fire department is evaluated. Points are given for everything from the training aids a fire department owned to the distance between fire hydrants. ISO wanted fire departments to conduct 20 hours of training per man, each month, in order to maximize points for every training aid. Historically, very few cities ever received a "Class 1" rating. There have been times where only one city, out of the nation, would receive a "1". Presently there may be as many as 40+ cities with a "1" rating in the U.S. This is still a small percentage when one considers the thousands of communities nationwide.

11. Do you provide home fire inspections?

Yes! The majority of fire deaths happen in the home. Residents of the community can benefit from a home fire safety inspection. Home inspections provide an opportunity to inspect for fire safety issues in the home, provide measures to improve the safety of residents and increase fire safety and awareness. 12. What is a Knox Box?

A Knox Box is a rapid entry system offered to residences and businesses for emergency use only. Keys and vital information can be securely locked in these boxes with the City of Harrison Fire Department having the only access key to open your Knox Box. According to the City of Harrison Ordinance, all businesses within the City of Harrison with fire protection systems should have a Knox Box installed by the end of 2007 to provide greater fire emergency protection. 13. What if a fire hydrant is leaking in front of my house?

Report a leaking hydrant to 513-367-4194. The City of Harrison currently has approximately 525 fire hydrants and members of the Department appreciate help from the citizens to report any fire hydrant that is leaking. Fire hydrants are for the protection of the community and we are very diligent in keeping these in working order.

14. Does the Harrison Fire Department provide station tours?

Absolutely! The Fire Department is open to all residents and citizens for tours. We are very proud of our Fire Department and appreciate the opportunity to show off our facility and equipment.
